"The Faces Of Islam". Queens Museum, NYC

Created by LaGuardia Community College photography students, the exhibit features over 30 photographs of LaGuardia students, staff and family members, as well as New York City politicians and community leaders who practice the Islamic faith.

"The Faces of Islam” exhibition presents to you the perspective of a representative group of diverse community college students,” said Scott Sternbach, director of the photography department at LaGuardia. "These teachers, artists, airline pilots, community activists, attorneys and myriad of others joined with our students and alums to share the bond of creative photography and in the process met as human beings working together for a common cause; to be seen as individuals and not as stereotypes.”

Long Island City: Past. Present. Future. OurNeighborhood on Display.

“A photography exhibit of more than 40 images of the once industrial, and now rapidly, changing western Queens neighborhood taken by LaGuardia students which will debut in the Falchi Building lobby. This wide ranging photographic survey of Long Island City includes a variety of topics in almost as many styles and techniques, including collages, panoramas, abstract, street-documentary, alternative processes, and time-lapse images.”

“LIC Past, Present & Future” at New Long Island City Branch

Student photographers from LaGuardia Community College are showcasing their work at a new branch of Astoria Bank.

The branch opened a year ago on Jackson Avenue. The new exhibit, called "LIC Past, Present & Future", includes snapshots of Long Island City.

Employees say the exhibit is the perfect show for the company, because Astoria Bank was founded in Long Island City more than 125 years ago.

The exhibit’s theme is especially meaningful for Astoria Bank, a full-service community bank which was established in Long Island City well over a century ago, in 1888, as well as for LaGuardia Community College, which has been a prominent institution in LIC since 1971.

68º North Visual Journey Through The Alaskan Wilderness 

A select group of Commercial Photography students spent July 2016 on a study away experience in the state of Alaska. The group was led by LaGuardia faculty members, Scott Sternbach and Lidiya Kan.

  

While in Alaska, LaGuardia students studied and explored the environment as well as the effects of climate change on the community. By meeting with local indigenous people, they were able to experience their culture and understand the people’s relationship to their natural surroundings. The entirety of this unique trip was documented by each student through photography and video.

The Lavender Line: Coming Out in Queens

This multimedia exhibition of the Queens LGBTQ community from the 1990s to the present marks the 25th anniversary of the Queens Pride Parade. Curated by LaGuardia Community College/CUNY faculty Thierry Gourjon and Javier Larenas and LaGuardia’s Gardiner-Shenker Student Scholars, the exhibition uses photographs, flyers, video footage, and audio recollections to illuminate the pride and protests of a community unknown to most New Yorkers.
